80-foot 'Transformer' sticker placed on building in downtown Orlando

'Transformer' to be placed on Fairwinds building temporarily

ORLANDO, Fla. - Workers in downtown Orlando are putting the final touches on what's going to be one of the most talked about sights around.

The whole side of the Fairwinds building, right next to Interstate 4 is getting a big 80-foot Transformer put on it.

Whether its a quick glance, or people stopping in their tracks, it's not taking long to notice something's different on the building.

"I think it looks awesome," says Tom Whitcomb.

In the works is the Transformer, crashing though and taking over Downtown Orlando.

"I gotta say that's the biggest billboard I've ever seen," says Nate Jones.

Crews have been working non-stop since Monday to make the alien robot Megatron's silhouette using vinyl wrap to put up the massive sticker.

Logan Herlihy says the whole idea is impressive.

"It kind of looked like graffiti at first, I wasn't sure what I was looking at," he said.

The huge advertisement is getting Central Florida ready for Transformers: The Ride-3D which is set to open at Universal Studios Orlando sometime this summer.

The ride, already at Universal Studios Hollywood, pits the Autobots against the Decepticons.

A similar promotion in L.A. last year appeared on the side of the Staples Center.

"I'm actually impressed that anyone in downtown Orlando would say sure use our building to promote this for Universal," says Jenn Vergara.

It's making Transformers fans excited to see the finished product.

"If I was going to Universal I would check that ride out, definitely," says James Beaver.

The sticker is expected to be up only a couple of days.

On Wednesday, one lane will be blocked on Garland Avenue because there will be debris and smashed cars out front as part of Megatron's path of destruction. If you happen to catch the bus in front of the Fairwinds building it won't be stopping there.
