Alligator bites 85-year-old man at Lakeland country club

LAKELAND, Fla. – An 85-year-old man was bitten on the foot by an alligator at a golf and country club in Lakeland on Monday, officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

According to FWC, the man was bitten by an alligator in a pond at Big Cypress Golf and Country Club in Lakeland.

A 9-foot, 9-inch alligator was removed from the pond by a contracted nuisance alligator trapper later on Monday, FWC spokesman Greg Workman said.

"Officials are confident they removed the alligator responsible for the incident," Workman said in an email to News 6.

The incident is under investigation.

Alligator attacks causing series injuries to humans are rare in Florida, according to FWC. Anyone with concerns about a nuisance alligator can call FWC's hotline at 1-866-FWC-GATOR (392-4286).
