Owner claims pig found on side of DeBary road

Animal rescue searches for owner of animal

LAKE HELEN, Fla. – The owner of Ruckus Oaks Ranch & Rescue, Inc. found the owner of a miniature pig that she believed might be lost from her home.

A woman and her daughter found the Juliana pig walking down the side of the road in DeBary. They captured her and took her to an animal rescue center.

Raphine Pierce, the owner of the animal shelter in Lake Helen, said she normally does not take in pigs, but when the woman and her daughter called and said all of the pig rescues they called were full, she made some room.

Pierce said she believed the pig's owners were probably looking for her because of the way she behaves. The pig "loves playing in the dirt and being scratched and petted."

Pierce said the pig is very playful and also potty-trained.

"She is somebody's baby," Pierce said. "If she's come to be lost, I just don't know how someone would not be looking for her."

After our story aired, the pig's family said they received several phones calls and were able to reunite with their beloved pet.
