APOPKA, Fla. - Some Apopka families are frustrated with the post office, saying they’re not happy with how their mail is being handled.Apopka families are frustrated with the post office, saying they’re not happy with how their mail is being handled.
Heather Eberhardt is one of them. Her surveillance camera that's propped up on her front porch caught who she says is a postal worker, throwing two packages on her porch Sunday.
This is a common problem, Eberhardt said.
In the past two years, she said, she and her roommates have received more than 10 packages with broken items inside.
Eberhardt’s neighbor, William Turgeon, has been fortunate with his packages, but he's still frustrated when it comes to the mail.
"There's been a time or two when boxes have been delivered to the community mailboxes and the lock key has been left in, and the packages have been unsecured,” Turgeon said. “(They were) open for anybody."
He isn’t the only one.
Nendra Roberts had to scrape together an extra $800 after she said her money order to pay her rent got lost. It was mailed about two weeks prior to Ocoee.
"This time, I just put it in the lobby and went about my business,” Roberts said. “He called next week (and) said he hadn't gotten it -- gave it until Saturday. (He) still hadn't gotten it, so as far as I know to this day, he still hasn't gotten it."
News 6 called the post office in Apopka to get answers, but was directed to the general office in Jacksonville. News 6 has not yet heard back.
As for people like Roberts, even if her lost money is a one-time mistake, she said she's still rethinking trusting her local office.
"I actually have a package now that I need to mail, and I need to decide if I'm going to go to Apopka, or maybe go somewhere else," Roberts said.
