Arrest made in Orlando woman's shooting death

Man charged with 2nd degree murder, possession of firearm by felon

ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando police have made an arrest in the shooting death of a 31-year-old woman Monday night.

Maurice H. Frye, 32, has been charged with 2nd degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in the death of  Lashondra Collier, 31.

Collier was shot around 2:30 a.m. at The Landings at Timberleaf Apartments near the Valencia College West Campus, according to police.

According to Orlando police, Collier, another woman and a man were inside the apartment when an argument broke out. Collier was shot and taken to a hospital and later was pronounced dead.  The other woman was not injured.

Neighbors said they heard at least one gunshot. Frye was found and arrested in Lake County after the shooting.

Local 6 learned Frye is a convicted felon who has been in and out of jail for the past decade. His history of arrests include attempted second degree murder and child abuse, false imprisonment, and aggravated assault.

Frye was already awaiting trial for other charges, including failing to register as a sex offender, when he was arrested. It's unclear if or how Frye was being monitored by authorities while awaiting trial.

He currently remains in jail for second degree murder under a no bond status.
