Baby's screams thwart rape inside woman's apartment, deputies say

Sheriff's Office: Man fled when he heard woman's baby screaming

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A baby's screams may have helped thwart an attempted rape inside a woman's apartment, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The attempted sexual battery happened at the Grandview Pointe apartment complex around 6:45 a.m. Friday.

Deputies said the man followed the victim into her apartment as she returned from taking out the trash.

Once inside the apartment, the man attempted to rape the victim and threatened her with a weapon, deputies said.

The man fled in an unknown direction when he heard her baby screaming, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said.

The man is described by the Sheriff's Office as black, with a slender build, 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a swollen right eye and small hair twists. Deputies said he was last seen wearing a brown hoodie.
