ORLANDO, Fla. - Firefighters battled an intense fire late Thursday that destroyed a house near the Bay Hill subdivision.

Emergency crews were called to the home on Oaken Cove Court around 10 p.m. after neighbors saw flames shooting through the roof.

"In the corner of my eye, I saw fire in the middle of the house," said Dana Mackey, who lives nearby.  "It freaked me out.  I called 911."

Firefighters said flames had already consumed half of the home when they arrived.  The fire caused nearly the entire roof to collapse.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire, but firefighters said they believe it may have started from a lightning strike.

No one was home at the time of the blaze.

Neighbors said the homeowners are out of town and possibly out of the country on vacation.
