I-95 ramp reopens in Brevard after brush fire brought under control

Fire broke out in Port St. John

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A 75-acre brush fire is nearly contained in Port St. John.

The fire was reported around 8 p.m. Wednesday on a section of land bordered by Port St. John Parkway, Interstate 95, Jamaica Road and Grissom Parkway.

The Florida Forestry Service said early Thursday that the fire is 95% contained. A ramp to I-95 that was closed due to the fire has been reopened.

Mike Clements told News 6 his grandson discovered the fire burning near their backyard.

"I looked out the window, and I thought it was just the sun going down," said Zachary Clements. "I told my grandpa, and then we saw fire."

His grandfather said he watched as the fire move quickly to the west.

"We could see the fire more to the east, and now it’s more over here to the west because I guess the wind is blowing it in that direction," he said.

No evacuations were ordered.
