ST. CLOUD, Fla. – A downed power line caused a 36-acre brush fire that burned Thursday near an elementary school in St. Cloud, according to police.
The fire, which burned near Bailey Road, was 100 percent contained as of 6:30 p.m. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
St. Cloud Elementary School was evacuated, and students were sent to Peghorn Park, where parents were able to pick up their children, the Osceola County School District said.
“There is a fire behind the school, and to ensure safety, the entire school has been evacuated. All of the children are safe,” a recorded message to parents said. "The children, facility and staff have walked down to Peghorn Park near the school.”
Osceola Schools tweeted the school will have a normal schedule Friday.

Canoe Creek Road and Budinger Avenue were closed Thursday evening. Drivers were asked to use alternate routes.
Osceola and Orange County Fire Rescue, the Kissimmee Fire Department, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Florida Division of Forestry and St. Cloud Fire Rescue fought the flames.
