Carjackers shoot man in face outside Orlando home

Victim suffers non-life-threatening injuries

ORLANDO, Fla. - A man leaving his Orange County apartment was forced into his BMW by two assailants, who beat him, shot him in the face and stole his car, according to deputies.

The carjacking and shooting happened around 5 a.m. Wednesday near Texas Avenue and Americana Boulevard.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the man was approached by two assailants outside his apartment near Lake Atriums Circle and was forced to drive to the rear of the complex, where he was beaten and shot in the leg and face, possibly with a rifle.

"My mother heard the gunshots, and she heard the guy yelling for his life, "Help me, help me, help me."

"It's hard to say exactly why this has happened," a deputy told Local 6.  "It could just be random.  He could have been the first person that walked out and these guys just trying to commit a robbery, he could have been targeted."

The man suffered what deputies said appear to be non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Deputies said a similar BMW was found ablaze in the 4600 block of Conley Street, and detectives are trying to determine if it's the victim's vehicle.

No other details, including a description of the assailants, were released.
