ORLANDO, Fla. – A program in Central Florida is getting results for veterans by providing them four-legged friends.
A $9,000 check was presented Saturday to the organization K-9 for Warriors, which works to pair veterans suffering from war injuries with rescue service dogs.

The program was started nearly seven years ago by a woman whose son is also a veteran.
Her son said the organization’s goal is to provide veterans with as much support as possible after they return home from duty.
He said the cause means a lot to him because he knows how those veterans are feeling.
”I was being a recluse. I was staying inside and again, the dogs give us that responsibility and you have to get out and exercise them,” he said. “You have to get out and train them and it becomes easier with the service animal to go into the stores and things because the attention is not on us.”
The organization has helped more than 300 veterans and nearly 800 rescue dogs.
