OVIEDO, Fla. - Central Florida Regional Hospital will be pursuing building an acute care hospital in Oviedo.

The proposed hospital would be on the site of the current Oviedo ER, which opened at the intersection of Red Bug Lake Road and Broadway Street in November 2013, according to a release sent out on Monday.

"Oviedo has waited a long time for comprehensive healthcare services," said Wendy H. Brandon, Chief Executive Officer in the release. "The opening of Oviedo ER was an important beginning, providing the residents of east Seminole County better access to emergency care. Now Central Florida Regional Hospital is prepared to continue our investment in Oviedo and fulfill our commitment to bring world class health care to the local community by building a full service acute care hospital."

Officials said the ER has stayed busy since its opening caring for patients from east Seminole County, which leads them to believe residents need another hospital. It's not clear when the hospital would be built.
