PORT ORANGE, Fla. - Classrooms were evacuated early Tuesday at a Port Orange elementary school after a Christmas tree caught fire, according to Volusia County school officials.

Eight classrooms at Sweetwater Elementary were evacuated after the assistant principal found the fire during a walk-through of the school just before 6:30 a.m.

It's not clear when exactly the tree ignited, but officials said they believe it wasn't burning for long before it was discovered.

The first through third-grade students housed in the evacuated building have been relocated to the media center for the day, school officials said.

The cause of the Christmas tree igniting has not been released.
