City of Winter Park gives update after Hurricane Irma

About 175 electric customers remain without power, city officials say

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The city of Winter Park provided an update Saturday evening after Hurricane Irma.

City officials said the city's emergency operations center is functioning at a partial activation. The EOC non-emergency information line 407-599-3494 and email messagecenter@cityofwinterpark.org will be open Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or earlier if power is restored to all customers before 5 p.m.

Regarding power, about 175 electric customers remain without power. City officials said all customers are expected to have their power restored by midnight, Sunday, Sept. 17.

All boil water alerts have been cleared, but city officials are asking residents to limit water usage until Monday.

About 100 trees or limbs remain down in the rights of way, city officials said. Forestry crews are mobilized and are working to clear the areas.

City officials said all city lakes are closed and are considered unsafe for public use because of elevated bacteria counts, downed power lines and high water levels. Boating, swimming and recreational activities are prohibited.

Dinky Dock Park, Lake Baldwin Park, Mead Botanical Garden and Azalea Lane Playground are closed until further notice, city officials said.

The collection of vegetative storm debris is expected to take 45 to 60 days to collect, city officials said. Orange County is offering drop-off sites for anyone who would like to haul their own debris. Locations can be found here.

Winter Park residents can cool off at the city's two pools through Sunday, Sept. 17. City officials said hours have been extended and fees waived for city residents.
