COCOA, Fla. - Cocoa police are investigating the drowning death of a 63-year-old man found in his backyard swimming pool. It was the second reported drowning death to take place on the Space Coast over the long Fourth of July weekend.

The latest incident happened 12:50 p.m. Monday at a home in the 2400 block of Auburn Drive. The victim was identified as Donald Robertson, News 6 partner Florida Today reported.

The man’s wife found him in the pool and sought help to retrieve him from the water.

Cocoa police and fire crews arrived at the home within moments. Paramedics worked to revive the man but minutes later pronounced him dead at the scene, Cocoa police report.

Detectives were investigating the case.

The Cocoa drowning came a day after a 2-year-old was found in a small pond.

Melbourne Police were called about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to the Caribbean Villas apartment complex, 2639 Grenada Bay, where the child was located, police reports stated.

An officer jumped in the water and pulled him out. The child was not identified by police. An investigation is ongoing in that case as well.
