Cops: Bethune-Cookman professor arrested for allegedly trying to meet minor for sex

Officials say Brian Jansen, 44, tried to meet with minor

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach police arrested a Bethune-Cookman professor for allegedly trying to meet with a minor for sex.

According to an arrest report, Brian Jansen, 44, used the Internet and his cell phone to arrange a meeting with a girl he thought was 14-year-old. However, the girl was actually an undercover cop.

Investigators said Jansen took a substantial step towards bringing about or engaging in a sexual activity when he drove from his home at 142 San Robar Drive Holly Hill to where he believed he would be engaging with some form of sexual activity with a 14-year-old girl.

On Thursday, investigators said Jansen had exchanged emails with the undercover officer back and forth. Eventually, Jansen wanted to meet with who he thought was a 14-year-old somewhere in Daytona Beach, driving a purple Dodge minivan.

After contacting the undercover officer, authorities said Jansen was arrested Thursday by the Daytona Beach Police Department, where police said he uttered "I knew it, I knew it. My life is over, I made a stupid decision."

According to the arrest report, Jansen stated that he had been successful in the past, securing sexual intercourse with women he had met on online sites, and that he came to the same location to meet the 14-year-old girl that he had been chatting with.
