Cops: Orlando man arrested after gun found in 'My Little Pony' backpack

Man also faces multiple drug charges

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man was arrested Thursday afternoon after officers found a loaded handgun and marijuana inside a "My Little Pony" backpack in the floor board of a car he had been sitting in, Orlando police said.

Orlando police officers said they were patrolling the Murchison Terrace Apartments on Mable Butler Avenue just before 2 p.m. when they saw a gold Chevy Camaro backed into a designated handicap parking spot without the proper permit.

As officers got out of their unmarked patrol vehicle and walked toward the Camaro to address the parking violation, the passenger, Kyle Roundtree, 20, got out and ran from the officers, police said.

Officers said they ordered Roundtree to get on the ground and chased him before he tripped and fell, at which time they were able to handcuff him, according to the arrest report.

Police said Roundtree smelled like cannabis, which prompted them to search him. During the search, officers said they found a cigarette box with cannabis inside.

Another officer stayed with the driver of the Camaro. Police said they could smell and see cannabis inside the car in plain view.

Officers then searched the vehicle and found the backpack with a loaded handgun inside, according to the report. Police said a green Crown Royal bag with a clear bag that had a green leafy substance, a digital scale and a box of sandwich-style baggies in it was also found behind the passenger seat. A field test on the suspected drug revealed positive results for cannabis, officers said.

Roundtree was arrested and faces multiple drug charges, one charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, one charge of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and one charge of resisting an officer without violence, according to the report.
