Cops: Mom leaves toddler in hot car to go grocery shopping

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. - Authorities say a 26-year-old woman left her toddler inside her vehicle while she went grocery shopping.

The Tampa Bay Times reports Brittany Dawn Nicely told police the 2-year-old boy has "just fallen asleep and she did not wish to wake him up."

So, police say she left the boy inside the Land Rover with the windows rolled up and the ignition off. A police report states the temperature inside the vehicle reached 95 to 100 degrees.

A surveillance video from the store shows Nicely was inside the store for about 20 minutes.

A police report states that the child was warm to touch and sweating.

Nicely was arrested was arrested on a charge of child neglect and released on $5,000 bail. No attorney was listed on jail records.
