Cops: Mud foils DeBary home burglars' clean getaway

2 charged with string of home burglaries

DeBARY, Fla. - Two home burglars were caught trying to dig their car out of a mud pile with a stolen shovel in efforts of a fast getaway on Friday morning, according to Volusia County deputies.

Matthew Swaggerty, 21, and Timothy Marrison, 20, were tracked by a stolen cellphone down the street from victims' homes on South Pine Meadow Drive in which they had thousands of dollars worth of stolen cameras, computer equipment and power tools in their car.

They were both charged with burglary of an occupied dwelling, grand theft and burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. They were then booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.

Anyone in the Fawn Ridge, Glen Abbey or Bent Oaks Subdivisions who believe they may be victims is asked to call their local law enforcement agency.
