DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Daytona Beach police are searching for a man who robbed a Sunoco gas station early Tuesday morning and fled after the clerk fired four rounds from a handgun into his getaway car.

Police say the suspect entered the Sunoco at 300 N. Ridgewood around 4 a.m. and requested a carton of cigarettes, along with a few other items. The suspect then snatched the items off the counter and fled outside, where the clerk followed him.

After seeing the suspect pull what he thought was a weapon from his front seat, the clerk fired his .380-caliber handgun four times at the car, damaging the grill and hood.

The car was last seen heading westbound on MMB Boulevard from the gas station. The official description is a light gray older model two-door Chevy pickup in poor condition, including multiple scratches.

Police described the suspect as a white male in his early 30s last seen wearing a white button down T-shirt with colored stripes and a black wool cap with blue jeans.
