COCOA, Fla. - A 16-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after leading Brevard County sheriff's deputies on a chase involving a vehicle reported stolen in the Cocoa area.

The teen has been charged with grand theft auto, fleeing and attempting to elude, violation of learner's permit and possession of cocaine and controlled substance.

The teen was taken into custody at about 5:50 p.m. on Tuesday after the Brevard County sheriff's helicopter followed the vehicle for a stolen car report.

Deputies followed the stolen vehicle northbound as it traveled about 60 mph toward State Road 405 where the teen then turned eastbound toward the Kennedy Space Center on Merritt Island.

Officers placed stop sticks on the road, snagging two of the vehicles tires, forcing the driver to gradually stop and exit the vehicle, officials reported.

The teen pulled to a stop and got out with his hands up, surrendering without incident, officials reported.
