Deer stuck in water rescued by volunteers in canoe

Rescue happened in Sarasota County pond

SARASOTA, Fla. – A deer in Sarasota County is safe, thanks to the help of two volunteers in a canoe.

The rescue, which was caught on video and posted by the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, shows two rescuers chasing down a deer that is stuck in a pond with a canoe.

Once they catch the frightened animal, the two rescuers were able to pull the adult buck out of the water to safety.

When the country club alerted deputies, two deer were struggling in the water. Unfortunately only one was able to be rescued.

Once the buck was rescued, the deer was strong enough to get to his feet and run to the woods nearby.

The two volunteer rescuers were from a local nonprofit organization called Wildlife, Inc. Education & Rehabilitation Center.

Deputies were called to Laurel Oak Country Club this morning for reports of two deer stranded in a pond. Unfortunately, one didn't survive but the other was trying his hardest to stay afloat. Deputies contacted Wildlife,Inc. Education & Rehabilitation Center who quickly responded and rescued the full-grown adult male. Here's a quick video capturing the event.
