DeLAND, Fla. - A DeLand homeowner hopes surveillance video will help catch a plastic flamingo thief and her getaway driver.
"At some point you can't live in Florida without having a flamingo in your yard," John Todd said.
Todd said he had two plastic flamingos that decorated his lawn for years until a woman kidnapped the bird on April 20.
"Why would somebody do that? It just makes no sense," he said.
Home surveillance video shows a truck slowly driving down the street, a woman jumps out, snatches the bird and runs back to the truck that never stopped rolling.
Todd said he's speaking out not only to find his longtime lawn friend, but to remind people that no matter what gets stolen, it's not OK to take something that isn't yours.
"Whether it's a little flamingo or rifling through your car or stealing stuff from your house, it's just not the right thing to do,” Todd said. “It's a stupid, little flamingo and I would like to get it back.”
