DELTONA, Fla. - A man upset that a driver passed him on a Volusia County roadway, causing him to brake suddenly, confronted the woman at a red light and slapped her, deputies said.

Warren Kirchoff, 63, of Deltona, was arrested on charges of burglary with assault and battery, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

According to deputies, Laura Reed, 27, of Deltona, called authorities on Tuesday around 7:45 a.m. to report that she had been hit by Kirchoff.

According to a sheriff's report, Reed said she was headed to work near Interstate 4 and was driving behind a slow-moving car on Howland Boulevard, so she passed it.

At a red light, Kirchoff pulled next to her and approached her driver's side window, deputies said.  Reed lowered her window to talk to Kirchoff, but he reached into the car and slapped her in the right eye, deputies said, adding that Reed suffered a minor laceration.

Reed then got out of the car and confronted Kirchoff, said deputies, who said they found Reed and Kirchoff engaged in a verbal argument while their cars with open doors were stopped in traffic.

Kirchoff said Reed was driving erratically and passed him, prompting him to "slam" on his brakes. The sudden movement caused his wife to hit her head on the interior of his car, Kirchoff told deputies, according to the report.
