Authorities said they have arrested the driver accused of crashing into the deputy's patrol vehicle at 11:39 a.m. on South Goldenrod Road near Pershing Avenue in Orange County.

Officials said the deputy was pursuing a stolen vehicle when the crash happened. The driver of the stolen vehicle rammed into the deputy's patrol car, then crashed into a concrete lighting structure before fleeing the scene, a spokesman said.

The deputy was injured and taken to Winter Park Hospital. The extent of his injuries were not available.

The suspect, 18-year-old Tyjae Rivera, was apprehended soon after the crash, Orange County Sheriff's Office public information Officer Jeff Williamson said. He's charged with aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, grand theft and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Sky 6 video from the scene showed a black pickup truck with front-end damage being towed away from the crash scene.
