Deputies seek public's help in identifying theft, fraud suspect

Suspect may have used skimming device to steal tourist's info

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance from the public in finding a man suspected of identity theft and credit card fraud.

A tourist visiting the Orlando area in April returned home and noticed several purchases had been made using her credit card.

Each purchase exceeded $500 at stores in DeBary and Orange City, in which the victim never visited. The suspect was caught on surveillance buying gift cards.

Deputies suspect the suspect obtained the information using a skimmer device, since the woman was in possession of her credit card throughout her entire trip to Orlando.

Officials believe the suspect has victimized others in the same manner based on Winn-Dixie employees saying the man had been in to the store before making similar purchases.

The suspect was seen at a 7-Eleven store driving a 2011-2013 black SUV. He was wearing a dark t-shirt and either orange or gold pants.

Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact Sgt. Virgil Ford at (386) 668-3830. Anyone who provides authorities with helpful tips will remain anonymous and may be compensated with a reward up to $1,000.
