BRANDON, Fla. - A Tampa Bay-area man has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after allegedly encouraging his teenage stepson to attack a classmate with a sock filled with padlocks.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Brandon man drove his 14-year-old stepson to his bus stop Thursday morning and encouraged him to attack a 13-year-old classmate with the homemade weapon.

Sheriff's office spokesman Larry McKinnon says the man then watched the attack and did nothing to stop it. Authorities say the attack stemmed from a fight the teens had at school two weeks ago.

The 13-year-old victim was hospitalized. The 14-year-old was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and his stepfather also faces a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a child.
