PALM COAST, Fla. - A Palm Coast man cleaning what he thought was his daughter's car in his driveway discovered the vehicle had been replaced by an identical car that was stolen, deputies said.
Flagler County sheriff's deputies said the man was cleaning the vehicle as a surprise for his daughter when she returned home on leave from the Navy.
Deputies said the man had trouble starting what he thought was his daughter's Nissan Altima, so he had it towed to a dealership at the Daytona Auto Mall. Workers at the dealership then discovered that the car was actually stolen from Volusia County in March.
Deputies said the woman's car had been swapped with the stolen vehicle as it sat in the driveway on Prince Patric Lane. A stolen vehicle report for her car has been filed by Sheriff's Office.
