GPS used to track down couple in Orlando dialysis center fatal shooting

Getaway vehicle had GPS device from dealership, deputies say

ORLANDO, Fla. – Detectives used a GPS device to track down a couple and arrest them Tuesday in the shooting death of an Orlando dialysis center employee, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.

Before the robbers shot and killed Gregory Whitbeck, 55, at the West Orange Dialysis Center on West Colonial Drive on Dec. 2, they robbed two other victims, according to the arrest affidavit.

Witnesses told deputies a man and woman approached Whitbeck in the parking lot as he was walking toward the medical center and shot him. The man and woman then drove from the area, deputies said.

Deputies identified April Coger and Kenny Chaney as suspects after another robbery victim recognized the silver Ford Focus used as a getaway vehicle in all three incidents, according to the report.

The car had a temporary tag, registered to Coger, which investigators traced to a “buy here, pay here” dealership. The dealership told deputies the vehicle had a GPS device installed so the business could locate the vehicle if a payment was missed, according to the report.

Investigators checked the GPS locations, which matched the two armed robberies and the homicide of Whitbeck at the medical center.

Deputies arrested Coger on Tuesday at 4745 Imogene Court. Her boyfriend, Chaney, matched the description of the man involved in the crimes and was also arrested.

At Coger and Chaney’s home, detectives found stolen property from the victims and .32-caliber ammunition, according to the arrest report.

Coger is charged with first-degree murder with a firearm and robbery. She was ordered held in the Orange County Jail on no bond.

Chaney is charged with first degree murder, robbery with a firearm and violation of probation. He was also booked into the Orange County Jail and ordered held without bond.
