DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - A Daytona Beach woman and the daughter of a South Daytona Beach lieutenant has been arrested after deputies say she intentionally burned the police lieutenant's 4-year-old son with a cigarette lighter.

Brandy Quartier, 23, of South Segrave Street was arrested by Volusia County sheriff's deputies on Wednesday after a two to three week investigation into the incident. The case was transferred over to deputies from the South Daytona Beach Police Department because of the conflict of interest.

Deputies said they responded to Halifax Medical Center on Feb. 26 after the boy was brought in with burn wounds. The child's mother told authorities she dropped the child off at the child's father's house and when she came back to pick him up, she found burns on the child's lower lip, hand, back, torso and buttocks.

The child told authorities he was sleeping near Quartier when he began to feel "someone sawing at me." He told authorities that his father didn't burn him,  but nodded when asked if Quartier burned him.

The child said it happened at his father's house and that his father was sleeping in another room.

Quartier is being charged with aggravated child abuse.
