Disney Princesses sing about equal pay

Video uses Disney song to promote equal pay for women

A new video making the rounds on the web features actresses posing as Disney Princesses, singing about equal pay for women.

The video, set to the tune of "Part of Your World", from The Little Mermaid, features a business-casual Ariel at her desk. She sings about wanting to be paid as much as her male counterparts.

"Look at my check, compared to his. We do the same job, in the same biz. Wouldn't you think that we both should be paid equally?"

"I want to make as much as a man - don't want 77 cents to his dollar."

According to CNN, the video, called Disney Princesses for Equal Pay, was made by the New York-based production company Tex Pats. The total production cost was $75.

Jenny Joslin and Annette Mia Flores said they were happy to see coverage of the gender pay gap in the news.

"We really like to generate a dialogue. We don't have all the answers. But it's great to empower women to discuss their earnings and consider negotiating their salaries," said Joslin.

According to the Institute for Women's Policy Research, out of 111 occupations with estimated median weekly earnings by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women make less in 107 of them.

Joslin said they're hoping the video will be successful in using humor and lightheartedness in encouraging women in the workforce to negotiate moving forward.
