Man arrested, charged after dog shot, killed in home invasion

ORLANDO, Fla. – A man who was pistol-whipped and robbed during a home invasion has been arrested on drug and firearm charges, police said. 

Police noticed small droplets of blood leading to Michael Magie's apartment early Wednesday when responding to an armed home invasion call at The Park at Cambridge Apartments on Conway Road.

Officials say they saw small amounts of cocaine on the kitchen table in the apartment.  

Witnesses telling police they heard gunshots coming from the apartment and observed a man fitting Magie's description running through the parking lot towards the tennis courts with two backpacks: one black and one yellow. 

The backpacks were later found in the bushes east of the tennis courts with a Sig Sauer firearm, 27 grams of cocaine and 437 grams of cannabis located inside. 

Police searched Magie's home and found mushrooms, ammunition and a spare gun magazine, the report said. 

Magie was charged with possession of cannabis over 20 grams, possession of cocaine, possession of mushrooms, possession of Xanax and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. 

Officials say the armed robbery was not a random crime and do not believe any residents in the area are in any danger. 

According to Orlando police, two unknown assailants forced their way into his apartment and robbed Magie at gunpoint. Police said they stole the his car and shot and killed his dog while they were fleeing the home.

Magie suffered minor injuries to his head in the armed robbery, police said.

Orlando police are still searching for two intruders in the stolen vehicle was described as a silver 2004 Mercedes with the Florida tag 479MFE.
