SANFORD, Fla. - Two women were critically injured and two children were hurt Thursday morning in a head-on crash in Sanford, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. on U.S. Highway 17-92 near Interstate 4.

According to the FHP, Zoraida Martinez, 50, of Orange City, was headed southbound in a 2013 Chrysler four-door when she traveled into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason.

Her car struck a 2007 Honda two-door driven by Stephanie Houston, 29, of Deltona, the FHP said.

Both drivers were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries, troopers said.

Two children, a boy toddler and a girl, were in Houston's car and were taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando.  The toddler was later released and the girl was in stable condition.

The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending against Martinez, the FHP said.
