DeLAND, Fla. - A man who is disabled, who authorities considered missing earlier in the day, has been found at Joe's Crab Shack in Daytona Beach, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said Monday night.

Ruben Melendez Diaz is safe, and a minivan that was reported stolen was located at the restaurant as well, officials said.

Earlier Monday, the DeLand Police Department said they were worried that 71-year-old Diaz might be inside the van.

Diaz's family reported his minivan as stolen at 3:30 p.m. from the front yard of his daughter's home on Laisey Drive. They said Diaz had gone to the van to cool off in the air conditioning, and the van was stolen with him inside soon afterward.

"Right now, our biggest concern is his safety," DeLand police spokesman Chris Graham had said earlier in the evening. "We don't know where he is."

Graham said Diaz has an amputated leg.

Police said authorities believe Diaz left on his own and thought he was driving home to Deltona, but got confused and ended up in Daytona Beach.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement issued a Silver Alert for Diaz, which is likely no longer in effect.
