Engagement ring stolen one hour before proposal

Officers able to track down ring, thieves

Headline Goes Here

LOS ANGELES - The worst thing that can happen during a marriage proposal is the woman saying "no." What happened to a California man may be a close second.

Andrew Johnson tells KCAL-TV he was one hour away from popping the question to his girlfriend when the unthinkable happened.

"My car doors were open and everything was spread everywhere," Johnson told KCAL-TV. "They ripped out the dash to the car and obviously the ring was gone."

Thieves broke into his car and stole the engagement ring as he was preparing to propose.

Luckily, Los Angeles police officers were already in the neighborhood after receiving reports of men breaking into cars.

Officers quickly tracked down the suspects, but still needed to find the ring.

"They told me that in most cases it is very rare to actually recover any property," Johnson told KCAL-TV. "So I didn't have my hopes up."

Johnson returned to his apartment where his girlfriend and her friends were waiting. Within an hour, an officer showed up at the front door with the engagement ring.

"All's well that ends well, right?" said Kate Kodet, the bride-to-be.

Two men were arrested and booked into jail, charged with felony grand theft.
