TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Gov. Rick Scott has signed a death warrant for a man convicted of raping and suffocating a 10-year-old girl after breaking into her home almost 23 years ago.

The warrant for 56-year-old Elmer Leon Carroll was issued Wednesday.

Carroll is scheduled to die at 6 p.m. on May 28.

He was sentenced to death in the killing of Christine McGowan in her Apopka home the night before Halloween in 1990.
