Family, friends celebrate missing teen's life

Body of Alexandria Chery, 16, found on Osceola/Polk County line

ORLANDO, Fla. - Dozens of family and friends celebrated the tragically short, yet effervescent life of 16-year-old Alexandria Chery.

A block party had been planned to show support for the missing teen before family members told Local 6 her body had been found on the Osceola/Polk County line.

The party stretched into the evening Sunday, where those who loved her most gathered at Poppy Park in the Carver Shores neighborhood of Orlando. There was music, dancing and food in what friends called a celebration of life.

Attendees were asked to provide a t$3 donation the help with Chery's funeral expenses.

Meanwhile, the man investigators believe is the prime suspect in her disappearance remains in jail.

Chery's mom's boyfriend, Sanel SaintSimon, 43, is not charged with the teen's murder, but faces charges for lying to investigators and destroying evidence during the investigation into her disappearance.

Jail records show SaintSimon has been granted bond on the two charges, but there are several holds keeping him in jail.

Local 6 legal analyst Luis Calderon said one such hold may involve an issue with his immigration status. It would have to be resolved before he could bond out of jail.

Deputies have said they are moving on with their investigation as if Chery's body has been recovered, despite inconclusive results from the Medical Examiner's Office when it comes to the identification of the body found while searching for Chery Friday.

A representative of the ME's office told Local 6 to expect more information about the formal identification of the body Monday.
