It was determined Steven Clark, 32, accompanied Amy Stefani to the hotel, where, police said, Stefani had arranged through Backpage.com to meet Alfonso Echevarria in his sixth-floor room.

Once inside the room, Stefani, 31, brandished a knife and robbed Echevarria, police said. Echevarria was able to disarm Stefani, who fled the room.

Stefani's companion then entered the room and attacked Echevarria, who in turn used Stefani's knife to stab him, police said.

Clark fled the room and collapsed before reaching a nearby elevator. Police said that is where officers found him bleeding from a single stab wound to the chest. They attempted to treat him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said Stefani, who was taken into custody, had an open warrant in reference to failure to appear for prostitution. Echevarria was questioned and released.

Stefani is also being charged with armed robbery and felony second-degree murder. Police said she was taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail with no bail set.
