Man fled in truck, then on foot before arrested, troopers say

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando man was arrested Friday afternoon after troopers said he left the scene of a crash that was witnessed by a trooper and hid from the Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Shannon Courtney, 44, was driving west on Lake Underhill Road, east of Rouse Road, at 12:48 p.m. behind the driver of a Honda when he failed to slow down and hit the back of the Honda.

A nearby trooper saw Courtney leave the crash site and continue driving west on Lake Underhill Road, troopers said.

The trooper tried to stop Courtney, who fled from the trooper and drove his pickup truck into a construction lot near Dean and Lake Underhill roads, the Highway Patrol said. Troopers said Courtney's truck got stuck in dirt and he took off on foot.

Troopers then surrounded the area and a K-9 officer was able to find Courtney, according to the incident report.

Courtney was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash, driving on a suspended license and careless driving, troopers said. He was taken to the Orange County Jail.

The driver and passenger of the Honda suffered minor injuries, according to the report.
