ORLANDO, Fla. - Florida Highway Patrol identified the second driver who died in a fiery head-on, wrong-way crash on State Road 408 in Orlando last week.

Troopers said 24-year-old John Joseph Hughes, of Orlando, purposely drove westbound into the eastbound lanes of SR 408 and committed suicide, according to an FHP release.

He also committed homicide by purposely driving into 66-year-old Charles Penrose, who also died in the crash. Troopers said they are still attempting to determine where Hughes began traveling in the wrong direction.

A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Robert Lee Gendron, 47, of Clermont, was also involved in the crash, the FHP said. He was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries and later released.

Eastbound S.R. 408 was closed for about six hours at Good Homes Road last Thursday.
