Florida governor to thank Hurricane Irma first responders

Event scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday

SANFORD, Fla – Gov. Rick Scott is set to visit Central Florida to thank first responders for their efforts before, during and after Hurricane Irma struck the state.

Scott is scheduled to speak at the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Professional Development Center Thursday at 3 p.m.

While Hurricane Irma is being blamed for nearly $2 billion in insured losses and leaving hundreds of thousands of residents without cable and power, the police officers, firefighters, and other local officials are being credited for putting their own lives in danger to aid other citizens with preparation and evacuation measures.

News 6 will provide a livestream of the news conference beginning at 3 p.m.
