95-year-old takes helicopter tour in Orlando

Birthday tour donated to volunteer

ORLANDO, Fla. – One Orlando man got a big treat for his 95th birthday -- a helicopter tour of the new Dr. Phillips Center.

John Wonner is a volunteer with the center and serves as its historical ambassador. He has been taking images and video of the construction of the new $500 million arts center almost daily since the 2011 groundbreaking.

Wonner catalogs the images, taken with his own camera from his Magnolia Tower residential tower and the seventh floor of the Dr. Phillips Center offices.

That's why the team at the center decided to treat him to the 15-minute helicopter ride.

Wonner was accompanied by his friend and Dr. Phillips Center President Kathy Ramsberger.

The ride itself was donated by pilot Dan Drummond and his family.

Douglas J. Nesbitt volunteered his photography services and Darrell Hill, president and CEO of Techtron Communications, Inc. donated video services and mounted GoPro cameras for Wonner to capture images during his tour.
