Barge beaches itself on Cocoa Beach

Weather caused barge to break loose from tether

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – A giant barge beached itself along Cocoa Beach Sunday morning, causing a bizarre view for beachgoers.

Rough weather caused the barge to break free from its tether and beach itself along the beach near Ridgewood and Haves Ave., the Brevard County Sheriff's Office told Local 6.

Officials have been working to remove the privately owned barge since at least 8:30 a.m. The U.S. Coast Guard was also on the scene.

No injuries were reported to BCSO.

The barge has since been towed away and removed from the shore.
