Brush fire scorches two acres on Merritt Island

Firefighters controlled the fire before homes endangered

ORLANDO, Fla. – Brevard Country Fire Rescue subdued a brush fire on Thursday which officials say scorched two acres on Merritt Island.

Fire Rescue crews responded to a call about a brush fire placed at 2:54 p.m. reporting the fire was near the intersection of North Tropical Trail and Pioneer Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters quickly deployed brush trucks and handlines into the area to douse a fast-moving fire located on an empty lot surrounded my homes.The fire was control the fire before any homes were damaged.

Crews deemed the fire under control at 3:27 p.m. and began detaining hot spots in the area. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
