Family's dog dies in mobile home fire

Home destroyed by fire, officials say

COCOA, Fla. – A fire destroyed the mobile home of a Brevard County family of five and killed the family's dog on Thursday morning.

The fire was reported about 6 a.m. on Thursday on the 6900 block of Aster Drive, Brevard County Fire Rescue said. When they arrived, the fire had engulfed about 70 percent of the double wide mobile home and had spread to the trees, according to offficials.

Three adults and two children lived in the home.One person who escaped the fire with the rest of the family was checked for smoke inhalation but was not transported, officials report.

A family dog, however, was found dead in the burned-out mobile home.

Fire crews within moments of the call and deployed water lines and soaked the mobile home as flames burned through the roof. The fire was brought under control within 30 minutes, officials report.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family, who lost clothing, valuables and other property to the fire.

A state fire marshal was called to the site to investigate the cause of the fire.
