Central Florida woman accused of killing husband, leaving him to decompose

Woman faces up to 40 years in prison

BARTOW, Fla. - A Central Florida woman has pleaded no contest in her husband's fatal shooting.

A Ledger of Lakeland article says Sheree Peters didn't report the death and left his body in the hallway of their home until relatives discovered it two weeks later.

With her trial set for next week, 57-year-old Peters pleaded no contest Tuesday to manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence and possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

Without a plea deal in place, she faces up to 40 years in prison when she is sentenced March 28.

Authorities say Peters killed her husband, 62-year-old James Dennis Peters, in November 2012. She claimed he threatened and attacked her before the shooting, but a judge rejected the woman's "stand your ground" claim during a hearing last month.
