For the first time in the charity's history, HHS has been given a four star rating.

"Halifax Humane Society's coveted 4-star rating puts it in a very select group of high-performing charities," according to Ken Berger, President and CEO, Charity Navigator.

Only one out of every four charities evaluated earns the coveted rating, which demands higher accountability and transparency.

"In the current economic environment, it's important our donors trust that we're using our funding wisely to serve the animals in need in our community," said Miguel Abi-hassan, CEO of Halifax Humane Society.

HHS had been provided services for animals in need for the Greater Daytona Beach area in Volusia County since 1937.

Currently the charity has the cage capacity at their facility to provide for 350 animals a day.
