GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A north Florida man has been sentenced to 31 years in prison for killing a man who was skeet shooting with friends.
An Alachua County judge sentenced 72-year-old Patrick Allan McCall on Wednesday. A jury found him guilty last week of one count of second-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder.
The Gainesville Sun reports that McCall heard gunfire from a field across the street from his home last October. He grabbed hi 9mm pistol and an extra magazine and went to check on the noise.
When McCall found 36-year-old Robert Matthew Judah reloading their guns, authorities say McCall opened fire on the group. Judah was hit and died several weeks later.
McCall testified that he only fired into the air, but other witnesses said he fired right at the group.
