Alligator trappers catch 6-foot alligator at Marion County elementary school

School has 800 students, staff

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – Well, this is a way to start the school day! Student at Shady Hill Elementary in Ocala had a surprise four-legged visitor in their retention pond on Thursday morning, a 6-foot alligator.

The alligator was quickly trapped by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission by 7:29 a.m., before students were in the area.

The elementary school has 800 students and staff that attend the school and is located south of Ocala.
