Two days later, a group of neighbors decided to check on the couple because mail was building up in their mailbox and no one had heard from them. Neighbors discovered the couple's bodies, identified on Thursday as 74-year-old Elmo Hines and 77-year-old Doris Hines, when they looked inside the home.

Deputies say they have limited information but do know that Elmo Hines checked his wife out of her assisted living facility on Friday.

The sheriff's office's Special Investigations Bureau has taken over the murder-suicide investigation.
